Working at Terlouw Rotterdam
At Terlouw Rotterdam, you’ll work with one of the world’s leading premium engine brands. We believe that strong customer relationships are built on personal commitment, technical expertise, and reliability. Our team is driven, proactive, and always willing to go the extra mile for our customers. About the role
As a Service Engineer, you will work in both the marine and industrial sectors, nationally and internationally. No two days are the same, making flexibility and adaptability essential.
Together with your colleagues in the Service Department, you will ensure that our customers’ Volvo Penta diesel engines continue to perform at their best. Your work will include preventive maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical faults, carrying out inspections, and performing complete engine overhauls.
You will report to the Service Coordinators and work closely with the rest of the service team. With your technical expertise and customer-focused approach, you will advise customers where necessary and ensure all service reports and job documentation are completed accurately.
Key responsibilities:

- Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults.
- Carry out technical inspections.
- Perform modifications to existing installations and equipment.
- Commission and start up new and overhauled engines and installations.
- Configure and programme electronic engine control systems.
- Prepare detailed service reports and job documentation.
About you:
You are technically skilled, analytical, and capable of working independently while also being a strong team player. You communicate confidently with both customers and colleagues and remain calm under pressure. Your flexible attitude enables you to work successfully in a wide range of environments while maintaining a strong focus on customer satisfaction.
Requirements:
- MBO Level 3+ qualification (First Diesel Mechanic or equivalent technical qualification).
- Proven experience in a similar field service role involving marine diesel, heavy-duty truck, or industrial engines.
- Willingness to travel and work both within the Netherlands and internationally, including participation in an emergency breakdown rota.
- Able to perform effectively in a dynamic environment with tight deadlines.
- Sound knowledge of diesel engine technology and electrical systems.
- Good command of both Dutch and English, spoken and written.
- Basic computer skills, particularly relating to diesel engine diagnostics and configuration.
- At least two years of experience within the marine or industrial sector.
- Valid Category B driving licence.
What we offer:
- The opportunity to work with a globally recognised premium engineering brand.
- A challenging and varied role within a dynamic, service-focused organisation.
- A team of enthusiastic, driven, and highly skilled colleagues.
- Extensive internal and external training opportunities, including courses through the Volvo Penta Training Academy.
- A company that actively supports your personal and professional development.
- A competitive salary and attractive employment benefits, including travel allowance, PMT pension scheme, collective health insurance discounts, and excellent training and development opportunities.
- 25 days of annual leave plus 13 additional ADV (working time reduction) days for full-time employees.
- A company mobile phone, laptop, and fully equipped service van.
If you recognise yourself in this profile and are passionate about delivering outstanding service, have an affinity with Volvo Penta and diesel technology, and enjoy working in a proactive, customer-focused environment, we’d love to hear from you.
